The Moremi Game Reserve is a jewel, a mosaic of floodplains, forests, and lagoons that provides the perfect habitat for one of Africa's most elusive predators: the leopard. Finding a leopard is the ultimate safari challenge. They are masters of camouflage, spending their days draped silently over the branch of a Sausage Tree or hidden in the dense riverine thickets. To track one requires patience, skill, and a little bit of luck. Our guide, with his incredibly sharp eyes, spotted the subtle flick of a tail high in a tree. As we approached, the beautiful rosette patterns of a female leopard materialized from the foliage. We spent over an hour with her, watching as she rested, occasionally lifting her head to scan the plains for her next meal. These moments, spent in quiet observation of such a powerful and graceful creature, are the ones that define a truly great safari. Moremi is a predator paradise, and while lions and wild dogs are often seen, it is the silent, solitary leopard that truly captures the wild spirit of this incredible reserve.
